Trekking In Sikkim:
The best months
for trekking and touring in Sikkim are Sep-Oct-Nov-Dec and
Jan/March-April-May and part of June. However, Sikkim is for all
seasons and all reasons. The Rhododendron flowers are at the
best from May to June end. In Dec and Jan there are liable to be
heavy snowfalls at the heights. The forests of Sikkim are still
intact. Trekking in Sikkim is very different from Nepal, as
trekkers are not allowed to roam unaccompanied through the hills
as that of Nepal. Foreigners must form a group of at least 2
persons and a registered TREKKING AGENCY in SIKKIM must provide
support services.
What to bring on a Trek:
Good attitude*,
already used trekking boots or to use them before the trek if
it’s a new pair, sun glasses, sunscreen lotion, insect
repellents, personal medicines*, water bottles-refillable*,
caps, walking sticks*, gloves, toilet paper rolls, heavy woolens
for the night as temperatures in the mountains can be very rude
in the night fall below minus 5-10 degrees, windcheaters,
waterproof camera bags, rain coat, thermal wear, good sleeping
bags with inners*, inflatable mattresses, sufficient camera
rolls, battery backups, small back pack for personal carry,
medical and cancellation insurance and lots of Energy-You
will require lots of it..
